Wasps at Work
European Paper Wasps, Polistes dominula
These European Paper Wasps (Polistes dominula) are shaving away bits of a wooden shovel handle, which they'll chew up and add to their nest. I don't mind having these wasps living under my eave because they are predators of the sawfly larvae that eat my roses!

Golden Chalices
I don't know what kind of flowers these are, but I love their brilliant color and satin texture, with those delicate orange pistils and stamens flaring from their golden hearts.
Purple Ruffles
My favorite plant to photograph, ornamental kale (Brassica oleracea). It is one of my muses, however unlikely that seems!

Spots Mark the X
Seven-spotted Lady Beetle, Coccinella septempunctata, on day lily leaf (Hemarocallis species).
I have no idea how this photo came out so well! Isn't she perfectly glossy? She is a Seven-spotted Lady Beetle, Coccinella septempunctata, a species introduced from Europe for biocontrol.
